Swing, swing..

Acrylic on 8 x10 inches watercolor paper.
This is the view from my second floor kitchen balcony, all I can see is the back side terrace of the next door restaurant. Nothing interesting to paint I suppose but an interesting daily activity caught my eye to get my paints out! I don't see any one come up there but I see a lot of pigeons, laughing doves, sparrows and occasionally sea gulls from the nearby beach and some parrots. They come to this insignificant terrace to drink the dripping water from the Air conditioners. But this one sparrow seems to be more adventurous than the rest, it clearly stands out! While the other birds choose to sit on the walls, this one sits alone on the telephone wire that is hanging between the two buildings and starts swinging lightly.I feel he is thoroughly enjoying what he is doing since this activity repeats ritualistically every day!
Many choose to think out of the box, take risks, follow their hearts with an adventurous mindset to make a difference or just to enjoy life with a different cup of tea.The adventure is best enjoyed when there is no fear of falling( failing), fear of being ridiculed. Swing like this bird I tell myself, I hate to admit, I tend to stick to the path of least resistance, not good enough I guess.. to stand out.. to make a mark..The swinging bird reminds me so!

  1. The path of least resistance is the busiest boulevard. It is a beaten track that takes one to no new things. The sparrow on the telephone wire signifies it.
The faded restaurant is captured well in your painting.

  2. Love the colors. They create a melancholic atmosphere. The sparrow lightens the mood. Fabulous.

  3. I love how that little sparrow has made you look within and I think this is a rather fine view. I personally seem to find the hardest way to do things myself. I look for the path of least resistance but don't seem to find it!

  4. This story sounds like a children's book in the making... You are developing a relationship with those birds out there... I love the painting! Do a whole series of those rooftop scenes!

  7. You definitely swing when you observe so much life from your kitchen terrace. I'll bet no one else is paying attention. Beautiful painting.

  8. Be like this bird. It is better to do and then feel sorry instead of not do and then feel sorry.
Great story. I have recently seen documentary about crows and how they solved logical tasks. I would like to talk to these birds about life and experience, I thought when the documentary was over..

  9. The shadows are thrilling which takes this simple bird on a wire to the next level. It's a beautiful moment in time as seen through the eyes of an artist.

  14. I really like the softness of this and the "search!" for the brave little sparrow on the wire. Wonderful story, Padmaja, and a beautiful illustration to accompany it. Thank you for that. I will not forget this image.

  21. profound and beautiful. Not many blogs accomplish this as sensitively as you have done here. You have me wondering about myself and also those I love. Fear of failure is a powerful emotion but also a can be a powerful motivator. Yes - a very interesting post with lovely imagery.

  23. I love the painting very much. It has a zen feeling to it, as do your words! Again, you've created something that I would love to have hanging in my home, Padmaja. You are so insightful and have such a beautiful way of expressing the things that we all need to see and feel. I'm glad that you noticed that all the birds were not alike and each had a story to tell...

  26. I love this painting and post. The way you captured the light. Some times the most uninteresting scenes makes the best paintings. Especially by someone who is as talented as you with words and paint!

  27. Beautiful painting and a lovely post. Sometimes certain very ordinary things spark such interesting thoughts to encourage and nudge towards change. I suppose the bird is there always to inspire and encourage you.
