Ending the day..

Sunset at Yiti, 5 by7 inches oil on board

Three is company, 4 by 6 inches oil on board

The Last catch, 4 by 6 inches oil on board

Just the other day my husband who was on his way back home called and asked me to get to the west window of our room and look out!The sunset was magnificent! We never fail to enjoy a single sunset just like we look forward to to the rising sun. My day ends with gratitude for the grace received for the day, such a blessing if the day didnt have much to worry about!
When I am painting a piece, I have this bad habit of fiddling with it to no end, only to result in a worse work! Sometimes it gets so frustrating. So today I set myself a time limit to paint, a limit of 5 minutes to paint on each of these small cards that I had almost discarded with no use. At 5 minutes I stopped where I was. I was happy that I was not worried about how they would end up, I think I could do just enough to bring the essence of the subject.Thankfully I haven't fiddled with them after the time limit :-) .They have found a home in Canada and are on their way!

  1. Very nice, Padmaja. I'm amazed that you could paint a painting in 5 minutes. There is something to be said for not fussing with a painting too much, although, I've never noticed that tendency in your other paintings. These are lovely!

  8. working small has great advantages and 5 minutes can capture the same way 5 hours can working large. I can never get enough of the warm colors from the sun.

  9. You are indeed lucky to be married to a person with similar taste and love for nature, and who remembers to tell you, that a beautiful view awaits you behind the closed window.
I can relate to your view of not fiddling with a painting too much, for I feel painting is also like cooking, the more we fiddle the worse it turns out to be, we have to learn to keep things simple.
Lovely paintings, and lucky people who are going to own them.
    Happy Deepawali padmaja!

  11. Catching a glimpse, storing it, and then reproducing it adding to it your own creativity... God may get jealous!! Jokes apart, all the three pieces are fabulous. No wonder they found a home so fast.

  12. Each and every one is a gem, Padmaja. I like the broken elements of texture and color in the second one, but that first one is particularly dreamy!

  13. These are three stunning paintings--beautiful colors. I am such a slow painter, the sun would have set before I chose the second color.

  22. What a thoughtful, sensitive man to call and tell you to look at the sunset... :) These are so beautiful, Padmaja. You capture the real spirit of the time and place with each of your paintings. I especially like when your skies are reflected in the water below, bringing heaven and earth together for that moment in time.

  26. What beautiful ocean scenes - wow. I know that feeling - that of gratitude and feeling blessed and it's wonderful when one feels that. I use to do timed pieces too and they are some of the favorite ones I've done.
