The hidden house and the poppy field

Oil on canvas 9 by 12 inches
Painted from the memory of my Italy trip, this is my virtual getaway from all the outside noise! Not a bit of silence for a second often drives me crazy, the continuous honking of the two wheelers and the three wheelers, the barking of the street dogs, the shouting of the street vendors, the drilling sound of never ending constructions, just to name a few! I envy my brother( living in Colorado) who can sip his morning coffee enjoying the Rockies! Funnily, when he visits home, he records  all that is noise to me as beautiful sounds and plays back everyday to make him feel he is at home. Surely grass is greener on the other side of the fence.:-)

  1. It looks so real, your work of art..I envy your memory and imagination.
As for silence and varied noises you had mentioned I was reminded of the idiom one man's meat is another's poison!!

  2. This is a beautiful painting. I'm so used to the noises around me that I hardly notice them.

  3. You have captured a serene quiet scene - even if it is a riot of colors :) I fully understand your and your brother's feelings about sound/noise - I seem to vacillate between the two sentiments - I know how it is to not be able to hear myself think in India and sometimes long for a bit of the lively sounds when back in the US - I guess each has a place and time ;)

  4. How gorgeous, Padmaja! I love those sweeping skies too. I wouldn't like the noise either, I must say. I tend to be and like quiet. Well...I'm quiet at home. Once I get comfortable, watch out though. Sometimes I don't shut up! LOL Anyway, fields of poppies always remind me of the Wizard of Oz move and I've always thought it was a beautiful sight.

  9. A painting exuding so much peace. I really love it.
Even I hate these constant noises that is forever keeping us company, in most places in India. I also yearn for some peace and quiet.

  10. What a beautiful field of poppies, Padmaja. ...and that little house in the distance with the spacious sky above. Love it! I understand what you are saying. There is something that scrapes the nerves with street noise. I recall coming home from a city visit, once, and remarking how loud the silence was at home. That's how nice it is to experience the gentle sounds of birds chirping and leaves rustling and the wind catching the eaves.

  11. I live on a main street in the city and I have had to get used to lots of street noise, although I admit I run my air conditioner instead of opening the window because it's too much noise for me! Your painting is beautifully tranquil, amazing you work from memory so effortlessly.

  12. I love those spaces among the poppies--room to meander through without stepping on a poppy.

  19. Somehow I missed your poppies. They are so wide and free and full with air.
The windows of one of my rooms face the very busy Moscow street. I can never open the window because of noise. But closed windows stop ALL the noise, special plastic window frames are installed. Maybe this info is useful for you.

  20. This one is stunning Padmaja, the colors, the angle of the hill, that sweet little villa. And that you painted this from a memory of your visit makes it extra special.
