Connecting to the Sun

A conversation with the sun, oil, 11 by 14 in hes
A hillside sunset, oil, 12 by 16 inches
Wrapped in gold, 11 by 14 inches oil
In a way this post is about acknowledging and thanking the sun that is playing a definite role in my daily life. When I got very sick, I was asked to chant  "Aditya Hridayam Stotram" (a prayer of the Sun Lord) and it was composed by the great Sage Agastya. It is said that the stotram was composed when Agastya saw Rama being depleted of energy while fighting against Ravana in Ramayana. Well, When there is desperation for an outcome,  we would try beyond our belief systems, I did gain by doing so and I gradually realized the lighting up of the sun within.  Since then I have been in to surya Namaskar, the salutation to the sun with gratitude. Stepping out in to the morning sun and feeling the warm positive energy has been a priceless experience.

  1. How beautiful, each and every one, Padmaja! As much as I know the sun is life sustaining, I admit to relating more to the rain and somberness of the clouds. But the sun has its place in my life too and I am glad it brings you such life, such joy!

  10. Good Morning. Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting. This post was a perfect first visit for me. The Sun is my Icon for Hope. I always remember a specific day that felt like the end of the world for me. I looked around and the Sun was shining so brightly I was reminded of my place in this world and drew strength from the Sun's warming rays.

I don't paint, but I admire those that have the gift of translating their thoughts to canvas so magnificently.
    xx, Carol

  11. Lovely paintings. All these chantings like the Aditya Hridayam Stotram has a soothing effect on the body.
Apart from the good effect, the Surya namaskar has on our body, there is some additional benefit from the Sun's rays (the early morning ray) It is said that the Far Infra Red Rays from the Sun is emitted in the rising and setting Sun. This is one of the reasons why our forefathers were very healthy as they used to be out in the field early in the morning wearing only the loin cloth whereby having maximum exposure to Sunlight.

  13. Whatever you have written in this post is absolutely scientific. Our scriptures and science talk of the same thing but in different ways. And you expressing it through your paintings can be the third dimension. Wish you lots of good health and happy painting days.
