Ocean Talk

Point Lobos ( Carmel, California) is breathtakingly beautiful. It is a great spot for picnic or just a simple bike ride, more than anything else, a must visit for artists! Watercolor artist Francis McComas once declared Point Lobos "the greatest meeting of land and water in the world ".I took a lot of pictures when I visited this gorgeous place and plan to do a series of paintings to record its impact on my mind. Here is one that I have done in acrylic on canvas sized 9" by 12". As I watched the waves dashing between the 2 sets of rocks, it felt as though the rocks were in continuous conversation with each other through the language of the waves, I am sure an interesting one at that!

  1. Hi Padmaja, thanks for commenting on my blog. When I read your artist statement under the "About Me", I realize I could copy and paste it to mine because it's the same for me. You have really captured the rocks in your painting. Well done.

  3. What a great painting... you've caught the drama of the rolling sea and surf breaking over the jutting rocks.

I find your comment, "As I watched the waves dashing between the 2 sets of rocks, it felt as though the rocks were in continuous conversation with each other through the language of the waves," very insightful and lyrical. You're an artist with a poetic soul- how wonderful.

  5. Padmaja, this is breath-takingly beautiful. I really get the feel of being at the cliffs looking out on the swell of the ocean around the huge, jagged rocks. Beautiful color too.

  11. This is an amazing painting. I remember watching Bob Ross show with you. I must say, I like yours better than his paintings. Is it because of the different techniques used? This painting is very eye-catching! Simple fell in love with it!
