The first light at the turtle beach

Acrylic on canvas 24 by 30 inches

One of the most rewarding wildlife experience in Oman is the turtle watch. During the night giant green turtles move slowly from the warm sea towards the shore searching for a place to lay eggs and leave before the sun rises. The journey of the baby turtles towards the sea is even more memorable.

Recently I had the opportunity to stay overnight at the turtle beach resort to watch the turtles in action. But I had to stay back in the cottage since I was too sick and my family said I missed out on one of the most beautiful experiences one can enjoy. I had to make up for what I had missed and got up early to witness an equally beautiful moment of watching the sun literally rise up  and the beach coming alive with light.

Hope you enjoy what I enjoyed through this effort to bring the moment on my canvas!

  3. It's one of my regrets that I never got around to turtle-watching - hopefully, one day...meanwhile, your painting exquisitely captures the beauty of the sunrise.

    Hope you're feeling better now!

  7. I have only seen what these turtles do on videos and being there to witness it must be breathtaking. Your dawn is equally moving, Padmaja. So sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. That touch of blue in the lower right quadrant, balancing the bright yellow sun coming up is a really nice touch!

  8. Aw, I love that you went out and had your own special moment when you were feeling better. There will be other turtle days, I'm sure. But it does sound like fun to watch them! Your painting so perfectly conveys that grandeur and awe of the sunrise and how it reflects on the shore and the water. It's gorgeous!

  11. Padmaja, this is gorgeous. I love it! I'm so sorry you missed the baby turtles. Maybe next year you will be able to try again. You might even see the same turtles that your family saw this time. I read that many of them return to the place they hatched. Amazing!

  30. I don't think you have missed out on anything as you have described it so well, even though you did not physically seen it. This painting is really beatiful.

  31. This painting has come out very well indeed. Never mind, you can visit the place at another time and don't come back without visiting this place again and without painting it.
