Lone Cypress

The lone Cypress, 8 by 10 inches, Oil
It is time to take off  for my annual vacation to California!
This is the Lone Cypress found on the 17 mile drive, California and the second time I have painted it. I gifted the first version that was painted some years ago to my cousin who stood like a rock to support his family in the event of his father's demise since this tree who has stood the test of time reminded me of him.
I hope to do some small studies and bring back great memories to paint.

  3. Some of your paintings remind me of tapestries. This is one of them. The colors and textures are breathtaking in this painting.

Enjoy CA. I love it there! I can't wait to see what you will paint from that lovely state.

  8. I love the color palette you have been using in these most recent paintings, and the heavy paint textures. Almost looks like encaustic! Hopefully you are in CA now enjoying a wonderful vacation filled with new inspiration.

  9. I think I've said, before, how much I like to enlarge your paintings and look at the impasto applications of paints, the strokes it took and the direction that each application takes. Here, the strokes in the rocks and tree just spell out strength. I love it!

It is such a beautiful state...I have been there four times..north, middle and south and they are all different and all lovely. I also hope you had lots of time to sketch Padmaja!
