The spirit of the Gulf
I liked the challenge by Suzanne McDermott to raise awareness about the plight of the Gulf of Mexico, here is my small effort towards that. I think, though small, it is a nice way to show our concern for our planet.
I decided to do Sea nettles, natural members of the ecosystem and not considered as nuisance until their numbers are extraordinarily high. Quite an uncommon subject to paint:-) I had seen them at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and love them for what they are. This is done from a picture that I took during my visit there. When I looked at their beautiful form and movement, the mystery of creation of life remained unanswered. I also thought that it was a pity to confine them in a space but now I may have to change my perception, I think they are so much more safer there than in the ocean.
You can have a look at Suzanne's challenge here and most welcome to take it!

Gorgeous colors here, Padmaja. We call these jellyfish here. I like "sea nettles" as well!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. I also looked at Suzanne's post about the gulf oil disaster. I don't understand how we're allowing ourselves to destroy the earth this way... but I DO understand using one's art and creativity to help spread hope for a solution and for a way to save the animals who need our help! Very nice work!
ReplyDeletewonderful color combination! I like how you have the sparkling whites in the painting giving a sense of movement!
ReplyDeleteMornin' Padmaja,
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful color. They are awesome. I agree with your ability to show movement.
A beautiful painting. You rendered very well the delicate (but deadly!) stingers.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely picture of an interesting subject. I'm glad to hear of the Spirit of the Gulf challenge. Sending positive thoughts and making art is better than simply feeling heartbroken for the creatures of the gulf.
ReplyDeleteNice painting, Padmaja. Great subject. Jelly fish are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteLoved it !!!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful work and excellent subject! Thanks for making an exceptional contribution!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, colorful painting. As you know I love the ocean and all it's creatures. I am so sadden by the Gulf disaster that it has been the subject of my current paintings.
ReplyDeleteVery nice composition and use of complimentary colors. A lively piece.

Padmaja, I thank you first for your lovely comment on my work and so I found your blog.. Also thank you for the attention to the Gulf disaster. I live in Florida, close to the Gulf and it has been so disturbing to think of what has happened. I welcome your visits anytime, and love you colorful works. I especially like Lombard street as I lived near there once and never did a painting of it... regards,
