To the Fort

To the Fort, 8 by 10 inches, oil
Last week, it was time for our annual visit to Tirupathi( The richest temple and the most visited in the world!) and on the way, one can not miss the Chandragiri Fort if traveling from Bangalore. Built in 11th century, I have visited it many times. But this time, I chose to admire it from a distance.Taking an excuse to make a quick purchase of tender coconuts, we stood for a while and enjoyed the view.To be honest, more than the view, my intention was to help the coconut guy make a quick buck. The hope on his face lights up with each passing vehicle and I never once feel like not stopping! He also had garden fresh carrots and beans that I bought bagfuls to be distributed to the lady sweeping staff who keep our streets clean. As a coincidence my husband sent me this quote today that I felt like sharing with this post.
"I learned to give not because I have much, but because I know exactly how it feels to have nothing"

  4. I have run short of words to praise your works of art but content myself to say this is admirable. The act of compassion not only to the coconut vendor but to the women who clean the streets will bring you joy twofold.

  8. I bought carrots and beans today. I would have gladly purchased them from this roadside vendor. How kind to think of others. A gift both sides of the transaction. Love it. The painting is beautiful, Padmaja. I especially like that hint of lavender, to the left that draws me into the painting and sets me on my way to the fort. Good post!

  14. Oh my goodness, Padmaja, you and your husband both, are role models to me, as thoughtful, reflective, caring people! The experience of buying the coconut man's wares was probably just as rewarding to you as it was to him. And the painting you created from the day is so lovely!
